What A Difference A Day Makes

Woke up this morning with a rough plan of the day sketched out at dinner last night with Adrian, mostly of some work I had to do [more screenplay edits + a bid for a small directing gig … that sort of thing] and a list of various activities for us during his visit.
Then, while checking email from my cell phone while still in bed, I saw an unusual Google alert for myself.  I get them pretty much every day about the blog, but I’ve found it’s helpful whenever there’s some strange foreign review of one of the books, or — as happened this summer — a production of LLS and my play that no one bothered to tell us about (seriously).
It’s turns out that my yoga friend Emily Stone had a full page feature on her fabulous loft in the decor section [Page D7 to be exact] which included a six foot painting of mine, one of the very first dropback series.
This was startling good news to say the least, and completely turned my day in an unforeseen direction.
I’ve had a lot of press in my time, but usually I’m very aware of it, if not actively instigating it.
This was just a fascinating gift from the Universe.
And given that my biz stuff is so together with mailing lists and constant contact formatting, I was able to generate a mass email within 1.5 hours to my entire list.
Let me tell you, I’ve never had more congratulations in my life (I stopped counting after like 120), brought on I suppose by the imprimatur of the New York Times.  All of it was wonderful, but many people I haven’t heard from in years and lots of people I don’t even know surprised me with sweet congratulations.
I attribute my good fortune to several factors.
First, a reminder that Emily Stone is pretty much Good News.  Besides being one of the early purchasers of my work, she also gave me some great notes on the last draft of the novel that were extremely insightful.  Thank you, Emily.
Second, in that this spread is in the Great Homes section of the Times, it is not lost on me that it happened the morning after Adrian –– my decorating project partner –– arrived in town.   IE, Adrian manifested a Decorating Publicity Miracle.
Third, I have to say while en-route to the airport to pick Adrian up yesterday, I was re-listening to one of my David Neagle CDs and a new insight clicked in for me.  Hard to summarize the whole topic here, but he made a very intense point about how one doesn’t need to ask anything from the universe since everything is already connected and one and therefore yours already.  Basically, the asking attitude indicates that you don’t believe it’s yours already and therefore keeps you separate from it.  It’s both a subtle and major shift, but as we parked in Terminal 2 for the Virgin America baggage claim, I felt it settling in … and low and behold, the next day dawns and I’ve got a Publicity Miracle on my hands.
And — by the way — Dear Reader, I’m thrilled to report that there were several requests for further info about the available canvases in the dropback series.
So if you haven’t watched the video about these pieces, please take 3 minutes and check this out … and if you’re inspired shoot me an email and we can talk about the few that are left, the ones that just got returned to me last month and like wayward puppies, need Good Homes.
