Last Looks

Today I handed in to my publisher several pages of potential copy blurb + a synopsis + sample bios for me + ideas and notes on cover art possibility … but I’m still holding on to the manuscript, at least until this weekend.
When you’re filming something, there’s a step before sound is declared ROLLING and the director says ACTION where the make-up and hair people do “Last Looks” on the Talent.
Just a little powering and fluffing and everyone feels a lot better about their situation.
Anyway, that’s what I’m going for this weekend with the novel which I have read so many times since writing the it that it’s a total blur.
It has been a few months since I’ve looked at it though so I’m hoping I’ll have fresh eyes for the manuscript.
And I’ve asked two friends whose taste I trust to read it through, not so much for typos –– there’s a copy editor and that’s their job –– but more for a little bit of reassurance, perhaps.
All before it’s semi-set in stone –– or at least published.
It’s all kinda unnecessary and yet I feel compelled (but not in a vampire-like use of the word.)
Also, I only now recalled that sometimes while directing my feature film, I’d turn to the make-up and hair people after they touched up the stairs with a woeful look, implying that they might want to powder my shiny face and tweak my hair … and astonishingly, they always did.
And now this weekend, pre-turning in the manuscript on Monday … I’m feeling exactly the same.
Just a little nervous before someone calls out ACTION.
