As I try to rein things in and simplify the volume of activities that I feel are incumbent upon me … my DATA went crazy.
Meaning, AT&T texted me to tell me that I’ve used up 95% of my data for the month in the first 4 days of my billing cycle.
Clearly something is wrong –– and they totally admit that –– and their best guess is that some weird program is playing in the background of my phone (although I haven’t used anything I haven’t been using before + I often put my phone in airport mode so …)
Perhaps the weirdest moment is when the AT&T level 2 tech guy –– I had to be bumped up by merit of my challenging issue –– wanted to guide me through a factory reset, and even though I totally knew this would happen I decided to trust him … until of course when he told me to push “YES, I WANT THE FACTORY RESET” or whatever button, and the call was disconnected for ten minutes while everything reset itself. [It wasn’t confidence inspiring in the tech people.]
I do feel it’s a good metaphor –- the FACTORY RESET –– for starting FRESH and letting go of all DATA OVERLOADING programs running in the background of one’s mind. There’s something directly parallel abou some gnarly, subconscious mechanism at work consuming all my bandwidth.
Fortunately, all this happened on the very day where I have I REALLY simplified everything I had to do, creating a much smaller to do list with only the truly important things on it.
[And of course, there are all sorts of constant, little adjustments along the way, ranging from dealing with your cell phone provider for 45 minutes, and on the other, more positive hand, waking up to an email from someone in Hong Kong saying they want to buy a large order of old DVDs.]
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, during call #3 to AT&T I discovered my cell phone plan options for Cancun which actually seem rather decent given that I’ve opted for endless incoming texts for free, and paid for 50 outgoing and 80 minutes of phone time.
That seems reasonable, right? I don’t want to overload!

Funny. When I clicked on this link in the Faceplace whilst on my iPad, the regular text on your site was fine…but the signature is in 199 point font. At least!
That’s appropriate, though –– right?
