I can’t believe it’s 2020.
And especially that 2050 is exactly as far away as 1990)
That’s why this January’s Meditation of the Month (LISTEN HERE) is fittingly about new beginnings.
As I recorded it, I was reminded of my yoga roots where this guy, GANESHA
–– (this one lives right outside my new door) ––
is the deity one invokes for auspicious beginnings.
Ganesh is, in fact, the most popular Hindu deity––after all, who could resist that belly!
He’s beloved, though, mostly because he is the official Remover of Obstacles.
Having a magical being sweep in and remove your challenges, seems like something we all secretly crave, especially as a new decade begins.
What people tend to ignore, however, is that Ganesh is simultaneously the Remover and the BRINGER of Obstacles.
I’ve definitely never met anyone who chanted to Ganesha to bring them MORE challenges, more cosmic speed bumps.
And yet, looking back on 2019, it’s very clear that my greatest obstacles:
(a particularly disruptive move;
a needlessly messy contract negotiation)
–– led to my greatest rewards:
(a new home I love completely;
the freedom that comes when you can walk away,
as Nina Simone said,
when love’s no longer being served.)
P.S. Again, the guided meditation is HERE.

FINALLY…
If you’d like a cosmic confirmation that my move worked out beautifully, our new situation is so lovely that my new building’s management company asked if they could film their ads in my new apartment.
Here’s a still of a hipster couple basically pretending to be me and Belle, mimicking our morning coffee ritual.
