After Belle and my beach walk this morning I picked up the photo transfer of the canvas I’m going to paint for my January Cavallo show.
And let’s just say I was thrilled.
It’s a little over six feet wide and when I sent the image to the lab, the guy kept discouraging me about the resolution and that “he wouldn’t do it.”
Well, that really wasn’t an option and after talking to the owner, they printed it for me.
And it looks kinda amazing.
The 50 something owner was totally into it and when I stopped by Artists and Craftsmen to get a proper tube to roll it up, the hipster 20 year old clerk with piercings was also into it as she helped me roll it up –– it actually is pretty much a two person job.
The really funny thing though is that at 11pm while watching some Hulu on my computer I got an email from the show’s wonderful curator.
Apparently, there’s been some confusion about what these works are called and her relayed email had someone calling them “backdrops” (stage curtains, more or less), “back flips” (which is a different gymnastic move), and my favorite “drawbacks” (which is better than my dreaded “setback” card in Transformation … but still: it’s DROPBACKS all the way.)
