At the Idiot Factory, I mean.
I’ve always loved that Hafiz line –– “There is no shortage at the Idiot Factory” –– and sure enough, experience proves that this is so, time and time again.
I recalled the poem today while chatting with Dan because I’d “forgiven” someone –– a mercurial creature who dropped off my mailing list despite having mutual friends and being in a book club together and even asking me to give a video fan greeting to my SF hostess –- because when I googled a few terms for appropriate images for a collage, I stumbled on her site. [Is this clear ….? On a basic Image Search in Google, I found a perfect picture and then looking at the header, realized I was on this former “enemy’s” website.]
I also revealed to Dan that I did a lot of “Go General” work before sending a letter (and a check) to a disgruntled vendor (someone whose work result was less than awesome).
Dan seemed concerned I was losing my edge, but I reassured him that there were no doubt endless people waiting in line for me to feeling outraged and alienated by in the near to immediate future.
And sure enough … someone in a Face Place sub-group was rude and inappropriate (and frankly, just plain stupid) and … wait for the Alignment Punchline … I actually chose NOT to respond.
Last week, I made the mistake of responding to someone –– albeit it appropriately –– when I was (to use the Abraham argot) “out of alignment” with astonishing, accelerated results.
But today, I did nothing.
And I tried to move the conversation (in my head) from the Specifically Negative (“she is a complete failure and fraud”) to the Generally Negative (“I’m really not a match for lots of people in this group”) to the Generally Positive (“I’m glad I’m relating in my real life to people who are authentic and successful”) to the Specifically Positive (“I’m so glad that the work I’m doing with my clients is producing astonishing results, such as the two terrific completed manuscripts I’m reading this week” –– although truthfully, my successes here mean I actually have to work MORE rather than LESS.)
And while there’s no shortage at the Idiot Factory –- ever, it seems –– at least I’ve decided to cross that location off the list of my Places to Visit (Mentally).
[I’ll be skipping that tour, but if you want to find me, I’ll just having a drink at the bar instead.]
