I’ve always loved that Einstein quote:
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
But I want to offer my own riff on it:
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though everything is easy. The other is as though everything is impossible.”
I have always totally appreciated Simon Doonan –– his wit, style, accomplishments, and frankly fashion omnipresence –– but now I capital A ADORE him, not just because of his extraordinarily awesome endorsement of my novel:
“What Karl Lagerfeld is to fashion, Edward Vilga is to yoga.
He has poured his years of experience into this sexy, charming and well-written escapade.”
But also because it was SO EASY to receive this from him.
It’s true that I’ve known Simon now for at least 15 years and we have intertwined family/friend relationships, however it’s not like he owes me any favors.
But I shot him an email on a Saturday and he wrote back to me on a Monday asking exactly what was needed, and almost before I could blink, I sent him the book and he over-delivered with a stunning endorsement.
On the other hand, getting some people to do a 90 second task (like rating the novel on iTunes during the pre-launch), makes me feel like a frontier dentist, pulling teeth in a saloon with pliers and a shot of whiskey.
Now, it’s not that Simon isn’t busy –– he’s the Creative Ambassador of Barneys and his calendar includes everything from writing bestsellers to designing the Obama’s Christmas tree –– but, as I discussed with my dearest friend from Yale, his sister-in-law Amy –– with him, everything is easy. Nothing is ever a Big Deal.
I LOVE that more than I can say.
Recently, a pretty blonde I’m connected to on a biz level was too overwhelmed to be helpful –– perhaps not realizing that I was not asking her to give up a Saturday and help me move my belongings from the Upper East Side to Park Slope, but rather for a few tweets and a Facebook posting.
But then last night, another pretty blonde lady (who is no media slouch) was introduced to me, and she was delightful, and immediately offered to blog about and promote my book’s June 11th release. [Details forthcoming.]
[FYI, I almost wrote: the Impossible Blonde and the Easy Blonde –– but that is completely misleading and NOT my point!]
I want to explore living more from this concept –– Everything Is Easy –– and see where it takes me.
It’s certainly Belle’s attitude towards life.
Midnight on Tuesday she couldn’t walk –– and less than 16 hours later she’s perfectly fine and vigorously mobile and back home. (By the way, that shaved patch on Belle’s front paw in the image at the top is from where they had an IV running a few hours ago.)
Nothing is Impossible.
And Everything is Easy.
That’s my new motto.
[Thus, thank you Simon and Belle and “Easy Blonde” … Let’s see where this takes us.]
