Someone Besides Belle

After a lovely day –– coffee at Acre, planning meeting, lunch at the super-zen, super-gorgeous, Japanese Tea Garden, and teaching a private client  ––Adrian and I had an early dinner at Don Pistos.
It’s true that on my very first visit, I went with Susan at 7pm, but that was before I registered with anyone there.
And once in October, I strolled in with Val, after she made a surprise visit to Susan’s on the eve she’d returned from a teaching trip.
But other than that, it’s just me and Belle — and except for that single very first time with Susan — I’ve never arrived before 11 pm.
So last night, when Adrian and Belle and I arrived at 6:30, the entire staff seemed pleased but puzzled.
(I think they were more confused by the change in schedule than the revelation that I have another friend in the world and wasn’t just arriving with a stack of pages to read and edit.)
What was a particular delight was being able to share the Don Pistos cuisine.  For example, Dan — a vegan raw foodist — could literally only eat one thing on the entire menu:  the radish garnish that comes with some dishes.  (I’m totally not kidding;  there’s not a salad or fruit offering to be had on the entire menu).
Belle, however, is a far more liberal consumer of food and for her birthday, I did buy her her own hamburgeusa.  [By the way, just in case you think I’m crazy about Belle and my mutual obsession with said dish, check out this REVIEW; even the experts concur.]
[And by the way, this kinda is my only red-meat indulgence, and even I have it only on increasingly rare occasions like Belle’s birthday and before extensive juice cleanses.]
So delighted to share this super-delicious cuisine with Adrian on his last night in town –– which also makes me a little sad, except that he’ll be back soon enough, decorating whatever next housing situation manifests for us.
