Today Susan, Belle and I visited Cavallo Point and were joined by Elissa.  It was amazing to see the space again since my visit 3 weeks ago with Adrian, knowing that in January through March 2013 I’ll be having a show there.
Leigh, the curator was AMAZING –– so BEYOND and great and I could not be more thrilled.
Belle (of course) made a million friends, including an Italian toddler and the Concierge who pretty much emptied out the container of dog treats for her.
Honestly, Cavallo is a weirdly amazing cornucopia of synergy, complete with a spa and gorgeous chapel with wooden floors where there are daily yoga classes and where they want me to teach some workshops.  IE, Off-The-Hook SYNERGY and Cross-Promotion (but not in a gross way.)
Right now unwinding after my week of super-productivity by watching THE IMMORTALS –– although honestly, since Henry Cavill is high on the lists for possible leads for the movie, I’m not sure it totally counts as “downtime.”  [I just now got how similar “Cavill” and “Cavallo” are as names.]
Even the Itunes description of the movie makes no sense:  Before the dawn of time, there was the Dawn of War.  Seriously –– what could that possibly mean … and why the strange random capitalization?  Plus, it’s not like the movie posits this as the first war.  It’s just pseudo-poetic nonsense, but fortunately Henry Cavill’s pecs and biceps can almost carry it off.
Cavill is RIDICULOUSLY, distractingly handsome in THE IMMORTALS which helps a lot given that the plot is beyond incomprehensible.
Unlike Harry Potter which made little sense to me since I hadn’t read all 30 volumes, since this movie is a stand-alone (or at least I think so), although I’ve really enjoyed the director Tarsem Singh’s visual style before in THE CELL and especially THE FALL, almost nothing in the first 40 minutes makes any real sense.
It’s like a strange board game where new rules are constantly being added.
[Or it’s like when I played MOOSE IN THE HOUSE with 8-year old Jonah and after a few rounds, I’d ask a question about the cards and he’d respond “Oh yeah –– you can trade those in when you land on X,” something he’d totally forgotten to tell me until that moment.  IE, the rules are always shifting or slowly being revealed — sorta like dream logic, or maybe even LIFE ITSELF, I guess.]
The image for today’s blog, by the way, is from a necklace I bought today at Cavallo’s artistan’s event.  It’s made from a vintage typewriter key on a silver chain and I love it.
Susan and I were both attracted to the one that said SHIFT and she bought that one, but I felt that the one saying SHIFT LOCK spoke more to me, both because of my more obdurate nature and because, well … I’m making lots of MAJOR internal (positive, growth-full) changes and I want to really LOCK them in.
SHIFT LOCK 2012 indeed!
