I admit to being a huge fan of Neil Gaiman’s novels.
In fact, I downloaded OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE immediately, longing for a few coherent hours to devour it. I can’t wait to get lost in his writing.
But here’s the thing that REALLY mystifies me: his twitter omnipresence.
First, let’s look at his Klout snapshot as of this second.
OK –– his Klout score is 90 (out of 100) which is astonishingly great, considering that Oprah herself is a 91 and Justin Bieber is a 95.
Here’s the thing though –– and yes, I’m proud of my math skills –– but if you calculate the number of days since he joined twitter on December 26th, 2008 until the present moment, you get 1654 days (including today in the total).
If you were to send out the same number of tweets each day over 1654 days, to send out 58,849 as Neil has, you would have to transmit … drumroll …. 35.579 a day!
Is that registering? Roughly 36 tweets a day, every day for 4 and a half years.
If you skipped a day, you’d have to send out 72 the next.
If you took an unplugged vacation for a week, you’d be 252 behind.
Granted, many are probably re-tweets, yet still … I find it mind-blowing to have that degree of interweb connectivity, that level of electronic stamina.
But then again, maybe that’s what’s required to be a “90” in today’s world.
Anyway, I guess I should tweet about it –– and everything else in my life –– immediately and constantly.
Literary lesson learned.
