Belle woke me at 6 am –– after I’d stayed up until 2 am working on the new script –– and so I “went with it” and continued structuring the new play while it was still dark until I felt semi-spent again.
There’s a particular quality of sleep that happens when you go back to bed at 7:30 … both very deep, in fact almost drunken –– and when I woke again at 9:30 … well, it was time for coffee and to launch into the day.
I got my airline tickets to North Caroline for the National Science Writers panel I’m moderating at the end of the month. I’d googled the night before that the best day to buy tickets is Tuesday, although the price was exactly the same as the night before. Nonetheless, I’m now officially booked for air travel to Raleigh and I even have my Belle-sitter flying in the day before. [I’ve begun a tradition of flying the right human in to take care of her and/or attend her book signings.]
Today was a jump rope day + a return to push-ups.
One client call –– where I do think I was truly helpful –– and then shooting more footage with SK(W) for “you know who” –– and I think we managed to film something both requested and charming.
And then dinner with Tara, my old Yale friend and –– for a particularly formative window –– LA roommate like … 15 years ago.
So great to reconnect at Plant, share stories, and admire the wonder of our lives, and the beauty of the Bay.
[And I’m too tired to explain why, but LOVING this clip from Valley of the Dolls for Susan Hayward’s line that “Broadway doesn’t go for booze and dope” and having a man waiting for her. Let’s just say … “THE THEATER” –– in ultra-italics –– is on my mind!]
