I have a new Gratitude meditation/acting out I think I can only do a few times a week because it really does affect me deep down and emotionally.
Yesterday I timed it — it took 25 minutes for the bulk of it — plus there’s a final re-emerging into the world step that takes all of 2 minutes if you’re prepared and have the supplies on hand. (Does this sound a little mysterious — if so, I’m glad — I can’t reveal all my mystical secrets here!)
On a weirdly semi-related note, I admit to having one very strong addiction: blank notebooks. I cannot resist them.
I think that they are always going to be the key to everything magical and amazing.
Each one promises to life-changingly transformative.
I like them in different sizes, shapes, and covers, although I generally prefer unlined -––and yet I am fine with grids (go figure!)
I bought this one on Saturday because I liked it so much and yesterday discovered its purpose: I’m going to write the FIVE things, the five actions, that will have the most power and impact for my life each day.
You see my to do list has grown to epic proportions, particularly with all the marketing around the new book.
Although I remember the days of having a fleet of interns in NYC, while I have partners and publicists and others on my team, it’s pretty much just me and Belle sitting here sending out emails. [She is amazing, but NOT a great typist.]
And so I began my FIVE and only FIVE VITAL TASKS A DAY notebook yesterday, by writing down SIX tasks (I couldn’t help myself, it seems.)
There was something clarifying about it though. Rather than the long list of brainstorming ideas for new book publicity that I genuinely want to pursue, I was able to have a conversation with myself that ruthlessly edited and isolated the single five activities that would have the most urgency and impact.
Yesterday they were:
1. Mail tax payment — VERY unpleasant potentially if I don’t get that together
2. Finish email blast for UPWARD DOG (it’s just time and an easy way to reach 1,000 people)
3. A basic organization burst (clothes, files, etc. were getting too messy for me.)
4. Write investors about something potentially AMAZING that’s been offered us.
5. Write something very specific for the new play (hard to describe in detail here but I love it…)
[6. Write children’s book.]
And frankly, I do love that my #6 was “write a children’s book.”
Why not “Go to Med School” or “Win Pulitzer Prize.”
However, the concept was quite clear as was the voice, plus they are by nature shorter than LORD OF THE RINGS, and so between yesterday and this morning, I actually DID write a children’s book.
Other highlights:
Lotus 4:30
subbing
No beach walk but dinner with Susan, Val, Clark and Jonah at Belenut (which I kept thinking was called Betelgeuse.)
And of course Rachel Zoe before bed.
And it is here that I must sign off because I don’t care how youthfully delusional he is about going from junior stylist in training to heading up a non-existent division of an emerging brand, no matter what … I’m on Team Jeremiah!
For reals.
