I’m taking a break now that I’ve nailed my midpoint.
The scene that’s supposed to be on page 60 is on page 61 (which is more than close enough for me). IE, the first half of the script is no longer a vast, flailing beast. Only the second half now needs MAJOR trimming.
Today I mostly edited, along with a set of errands, and just a few other biz things. The highlight of those was a lovely chat with my friend Ingrid who wants to do some retreats with me in Sardinia, Palm Springs, and Mexico this year –– all of which seem less than tragic, indeed.
Another highlight of the day –– a day of mostly GLORIOUS, uninterrupted wireless I’d like to add –– was the text I received asking if I could babysit Jonah during Clark & Val’s tenant meeting.
I picked Jonah (8) up at his Rock Band practice, some kind of after-school thing for kids his age which seemed incredibly not-fake at all. Seriously. The music sounded amazing and deafening. The decor included the album above, with similar ones lining the halls for parents and their surrogates leading towards the jam sessions.
After practice, I handed him my iPhone because he was dying to watch videos about Lego Indiana Jones and that seemed totally fair. I kept remembering how much I liked getting lost in things like comics at his age, and it just felt silly to pry him away from pleasure.
He wanted sushi for dinner and so Belle and Jonah and I sat down together, he with my iPhone and me with the first 60 pages (then about 70 pages), and we each did our thing. I asked him if this was cool with him and it was –– obviously who doesn’t like to sit with a friend and just read or play video games over sushi in respectful mutual silence?
Now, I’m taking a mini-break with the last half of a random episode of THE MENTALIST that’s on –– is it really that easy to hypnotize strangers? –– and then back to that rambling second half of the script.
But I tell you … there’s something so amazing about knowing that the first hour of my movie is solid and orderly.
FYI –– just in case you were wondering –– here’s one of the Lego videos Jonah needed to watch:
