Well — it’s not brilliant YET (my script, that is) but in days, mere days, it will be.
Suddenly it was 2 am last night and I’d hit a solid 75% or more of the script at 172 pages and I just had to stop. I calculate we’ve only another 30-40 pages to go before the massive condensation and ruthless editing begins.
By the way, this is what the outline format looks like — this is about 1/3 of the 240 cards I’m dealing with, color-coded and all. I switch back and forth between the white cards — the unwritten scenes from the novel — and then write the scene and color-code it appropriately based on story-line and sometimes character-thread. It helps keep things clear, especially since I can write all of one character’s scenes across the script in a fell swoop.
More happened yesterday — a lovely beachwalk with Susan and Belle, dinner at Plant, more David Neagle insights — but the world of my novel is VERY immersive.
And the quote I began with, by the way, is from DOWNTON ABBEY.
If you haven’t watched the great Maggie Smith in this, you really should.
She is beyond brilliant. Effortlessly hilarious. Worth watching again and again.
