(The alternative title to this blog was “Hung” but I drew the line there.)
I literally bolted upright at 4am, realizing that we had mis-measured the canvas stretchers for the large new canvas.   Basically, it’s tricky to do and/or explain but we were measuring them as though they were framing the canvas, not calculating that the canvas was going to be wrapped around them.  (Meaning we were 2 or 3 inches short on every size.)
We raced to the art supply store at 9 am and the whole staff got involved because basically I needed two  76 inch long stretchers and the default sizes are 72 and then a skip to 80.  Ordering them custom made takes 2 weeks or so and the install was this morning.
We called the other 3 major SF art supply stores and no luck, which left either finding an alternative solution with the engineer at Cavallo or finding a (very expensive) person to stretch them for me who had the right custom sizes on hand.
Fortunately, Cavallo’s engineer had a hanging solution when pressed, and so all six canvases (four poster-sized and two giants) are now hung.
This left the 9 drawings I brought and … well, 3 were rejected by the super-wonderful curator because they were a little too naked for nude drawings.  [I totally get where she’s coming from;  it’s corporate and not up to her.  Basically, body contours are fine, but any indications of primary or secondary sex characteristics are not.]
Anyway, so I now have 3 custom framed drawings that I will probably post tomorrow on the Face Place since someone should have them hanging somewhere.
And honestly, I can’t in any way complain about having 6 paintings and 6 drawings on display for three months –– right?
After the install, drove Adrian off to the airport to return to NYC which is 30 degrees colder than here.
And then a deep exhaustion set in.  Nap and client then cleaning, then client and soon … to bed ridiculously early.
By the way, this is one of the vetoed drawings –– is it too sexy for you?  (Or is it just me?)
