All week people have been asking me if I’m ready for my opening on Thursday at Cavallo.
It’s a natural question, but since everything’s been hung since January 5th –– honestly, it feels like I’ve been ready forever.
There have been a few last minute things –– sending out some email reminders etc. –– but in all honesty, this is the easiest event I’ve ever participated in.
I don’t feel the need to “pack the house” as I do with every play or screening, nor do I feel I need to dig deep into my contacts to get the best crowd of potential buyers etc. there … I just don’t have the same layers of connections in SF that I did/do in NYC.
So essentially, tomorrow Belle and I pretty much get to just “show up.”
Not that there isn’t tons for me to do, mind you. I had an awesome call about a new video platform for book promotion, and as I’ve mentioned yesterday my Consulting business is now at the Dynasty Building level.
On those things, I feel very much aligned with one of my absolute Favorites: I WANNA BE READY from Revelations (somethings I see every winter I’m in NYC.)
Love this vintage performance –– it’s been performed every year since Ailey created the piece in 1960.
Watching it today, I was particularly struck by the Angel moments in the middle (and the Half Moon echoes), and by how the dancer struggles and struggles and keeps falling and catching himself before and after.
Those of us who wanna be ready, really really understand.
