Why is no one talking about this?
Robert Morse way back in 1961 was playing the lead (and won a Tony) for HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING. And now — 40 years later — is playing the head of a 60s business in MAD MEN (Bertram Cooper). Amazing on so many levels.
Watched most of HOW TO SUCCEED last night on netflix streaming until like 1:30 — needed to get up for Jasmine’s 9 am at the Laughing Lotus.
Fascinating and fun –– and research for the new play –– but mostly just so happy that Robert Morse continues to SUCCEED! (And what was a hilarious reminder about the movie was that he rises to the top in seconds, but is constantly wondering why it is taking so damn long — see my last paragraph in today’s entry).
Other Highlights of Wednesday:
Took a break from constant FUNDRAISING to play scrabble against my iphone. First word that comes up: FUNDING. I’m not kidding. Is the universe taunting me? Is the message that FUNDING is easy? Or is it just another 7 letter word (therefore with a 50 point bonus).
Have been so on the writing/fundraising/writing/fundraising treadmill that my lunches have suffered. After two days of crossing the street for an ice cream sandwich and some potato chips, decided a Trader Joe’s trip was in order for more rawness in my diet. (An apple a week…)
A delightful twilight beach walk with just me and Belle (although as it was dark on the way back we encountered what might very well have been an alien humanoid and dog-form duo, with spotlights shining from their pith helmets and dog collars respectively. Definitely not 100% native to this planet.
Earlier, feeling a completely unjustified spasm of “will anything ever work out for me,” took emergency nap. Awoke to an email that was so great it was, quite frankly, comical, where my producing ANGEL (more on that later once papers are signed next week) told me about her day with an “impressive” A-List movie star who is utterly perfect for the lead in the novel of mine she is optioning.
Realizing I do have perhaps the tiniest glimmer of hope — in the form of a sex-god movie star — I was able to forge on like the good Christian solider East Catholic trained me to be.
Others have (apparently) suffered more.
(Apparently).
