My transposition of my novel is currently 273 pages.
The maximum it should ever be is 120.
Therefore it is now more than twice as long as it can be.
There are currently 312 scenes of which I have written all but 8. I am therefore 97.4% done with this part of the process.
I actually think the whittling down is going to be easy. There are endless long voice-over sections that will be instantly trimmed. Structurally the script is complete — with an excess of witty dialogue and internal monologue to boot.
Of course, there are endless choices ahead. For example, things that are simply mentioned in this book can become full-fledged scenes.
But for now — at 11:41 pm — I’m going to try to completely focus and forge ahead so that I can wake up tomorrow with an excessively long, but nonetheless complete script in hand.
For most of the day, the outside world has faded away. I vaguely recall a conversation with Dan and a brief one with Andrea, and I think I watched an episode of THE GOOD WIFE.
Beyond the script, the only reality I recognize is Belle (although she’s looking at me as though I’m a little off) and the fact that Susan left this incredibly sweet box of 2 perfect truffles for me. [And maybe that all the outside world anyone needs…]
