My blogging schedule has been thrown off by Vancouver.
I returned late on Thursday night back to “The Loft” where I was staying. Coming in post midnight, changed everything. [The Loft by the way, is fantastic –- owned by these two super-great guys and incredibly quirky and comforting all at once.]
(Those stairs, by the way, mean that if you are a serious drinker you should not consider staying there as I found it took concentration for me to climb up and down even stone-cold-sober in the middle of the afternoon.)
Again, the screening was really great –– started at 8 and then we discussed extensively afterwards and I ended up arriving home close to 1 am, after being driven back by the director. It was a bit of an adjustment not to be in early and writing up my thoughts of the day.
[That, and the fact, that I realize that except for 1.5 hours while teaching a class, I haven’t been apart from Belle longer than that since last July.]
I did take an incredibly great walk during the day on Friday which included visiting the beach where Belle and I spent autumn of 2009 with Adrian –– and I swear I am not cheating on Belle when I found this other lab parading around with a frisbee.
Note: one of the many great things about Vancouver is that everywhere you turn, in the best possible way, you feel like you’re in a beer commercial: ice-blue mountains framing everything and surrounded by lots of attractive people in casual sporting gear.
I got back to San Francisco just in time to make it to Val’s party — the cake had just been served –– and stayed until around midnight when it was officially wrapping up.
Jonah (8) was on a similar schedule to mine in that he was determined to stay up until midnight, although towards 11:30 I found him reclining in the living room, still valiantly part of the party.
How well I understand, as I attempt to post this before midnight, so eager just to snuggle into bed with Belle, who is paving the way in sleep leadership.)
