Last year on New Year’s Eve I was reclining in business class on a Virgin Airlines flight to Sydney, en route to the New Zealand/Australia cruise that really did change my life.
Frankly, I’ve had a lot of New Year’s Eve experiences in my day including (in what feels like another life) my own black tie wedding for 250 people at the Puck Building, complete with all-girl swing band. Once you’ve done that on New Year’s you’ve kinda maxed out … or so I thought.
Since I’m going the distance with all my Human Design insights about being an Emotional Projector, trying to embrace that my best/correct strategy is to “Wait for the Invitation,” I’ve been particularly lose about New Years.
And the perfect invitation came: Jonah (8) invited Belle and me to see TINTIN on New Year’s (totally his idea after he had seen the movie; he just thought the three of us should see it together), and then Val invited/asked if I could babysit.
So after an excellent round of morning errands and a stellar beach walk, Susan and I showed up at Val and Clark’s to play a zesty game of transformation (not fully completed, although I did get a ton of insight regarding my question), and then I dropped Susan home and Jonah and I headed to TINTIN together.
First, I would like to point out that this was Belle’s very first movie in a theater. My little dog has seen tons of live theater –– most notably MIRACLE IN RWANDA rehearsals and performances –– but has never seen a motion picture in such a setting.
Jonah’s choice of movie was absolutely inspired because it not only was about a boy and his dog, but also because my theme for 2012 — as per Transformation last week –– is ADVENTURE. And seeing Tintin with an eight year-old embodied that perfectly.
I remember loving the Tintin books when I first encountered them, probably when I was just a little older than Jonah. There’s something particularly magical about the reality that Hergé created, something full of mystery and endlessly appealing.
Sometime after I got Belle, I even bought myself a Tintin key-chain of Tintin and Snowy driving in his red convertible. It was actually part of the inspiration for buying a convertible in LA, although I opted for “champagne” versus the more obvious red.
Jonah and I are now sharing some blue tortilla chips and humus before bed. I’m probably going to do a little more fine-tuning of my goals based on all the transformation insights this week, but already this New Year’s Eve spent beach-walking with Belle and Susan, and then Transformation, with a Tintin grand finale (a boy and a “boy” and his dog watching a movie about a boy and his dog) is perhaps my best.
Happy 2012!
