Mary Zimmerman is really in a league all her own.
METAMORPHASIS was the play of hers that first really blew my mind –– and I’ve loved others since –– and today I saw WHITE SNAKE at Berkeley Rep and it was predictably astonishing.
It had the two hallmarks of her work I love:
Unbelievably imaginative stagecraft –– things that really are “pure theater” –– and then, even though working a mythic structure, an overpoweringly emotional ending that feels incredibly personal.
She really is … AMAZING.
[By the way, this video delivers about 1/16 of what you get on stage … but again, AMAZING.]

I like it when you get out of the house and do things.
