I had a healthy, even comical, dose of gaining perspective today when I finally got the revised option agreement fully executed and mailed my producer.
I had attempted to do this before Alaska but was thwarted because I couldn’t get the contracts notarized until I’d registered the script portion with the copyright bureau ($35 for online submission).
And part of me keeps rebelling against the fact that 3 notarized signatures are required (at $10 each) on 4 sets of copies (ie, $120).
And even when I finally manned up, I ran out of ink in the middle of the 3rd copy and had to head to the store to buy more ink (I opted for both the black and white and color ink cartridges so $47.)
Granted, this turned into a $200 project –– before I forget, $9.57 for the UPS delivery to her LA offices with delivery confirmation (versus $13.50 for a private residence) –– but what is hilarious is that the contracts are for –– when the movie progresses to the next step –– many, many, many (like 2,500 more many) times the $200 I spent today.
And somehow, realizing mid-way through, that I was torturing myself over a $200 hassle for a document promising thousands of times that … I slapped myself awake, finished off a glass of sparkling rose and half a box of caramels and relaxed.
[The finale of the day:  dinner with Belle, Susan, and JW at Plant –– and now watching the second season of BETTER OF TED and loving it’s ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT vibe completely; had I not shifted perspective, I’d very much be mimicking any of a half dozen delusional characters on either show in an uncanny way.]
