Today had a very dream-like quality –– and I can tell if it’s because I’m on Day Three of the Juice Cleanse or because I’m super-immersed in the screenplay rewrite.
A blur of a morning where I know I walked Belle, worked on edits, napped briefly, and then went to Plant for 2 classes of rosé at the counter. [Belle is adored by the manager there, Sean, and received two servings of chicken –– she is decidedly NOT on a juice fast.]
I find it incredibly helpful to get out of the cottage to read through the script for many reasons, particularly because I think it’s vital to try to read it through in a single sitting (akin to the movie experience itself.) In fact, one of the worst things you can tell a screenwriter is that you started his or her script and are halfway through; it feels like you’ve already failed the most vital test of keeping the audience’s interest.
Thus, it really helps it I get out and go somewhere fresh and just sit down and plunge in, page one until THE END.
Slightly dizzy from the rosé, I still made it to 4:30 Bikram. Initially, I questioned my decision, but it turned out to be one of my best in-class experiences ever.
And now, returning home, I’m nearly done with everything on the script “to do” list for the weekend.
In addition, I think part of the strangeness is that I’m writing (obviously) about the yoga world and in NYC there’s the first Lotus Summit which I am (also obviously) not attending, but seeing all the Facebook postings about it. I feel both very connected and utterly dislocated.
In the end, though, I have just two little bits more to write tonight –– and I’m only on page 119 –– and then I can sleep and wake up tomorrow, knowing both my body and my script are extremely close to being Movie Star ready.
